Conservatories Edinburgh, Get A Quote
A lot of homeowners across Edinburgh come to us with the same frustrations. The conservatory that was fitted years ago feels freezing in winter, boiling in summer, and the heating bills creep up every year. Condensation builds up on the glass, draughts come through the frames, and the whole room ends up locked off for most of the year. If that sounds familiar, a new conservatory could make a real difference to how you use your home.
Solving Draughts and Heat Loss
Older conservatories were often built with single or early double glazed units that simply do not hold heat. Modern sealed units are a completely different product. Our conservatories use A-rated double or triple glazed glass that significantly reduces the amount of heat escaping through the panels.
The frames matter just as much as the glass. Our uPVC profiles are multi-chambered, which means air pockets within the frame act as insulation. Cold spots along the sill or around the door frame are a sign that the original installation has broken down over time. New frames fitted correctly should feel warm to the touch on the inside, even on a cold Edinburgh morning.
Roof choice plays a big part too. A solid tiled roof or a high-performance glazed roof can dramatically cut down on heat loss compared to a standard polycarbonate sheet. We can talk you through which roof type suits your space and your budget when we come out to look at the job.
Dealing With Condensation and Damp
Condensation on the inside of the glass usually means the sealed unit has failed. Once the seal goes, moisture gets between the panes and the glass clouds over. That is not something that can be cleaned off. The unit needs replacing, and if your conservatory has multiple panes doing the same thing, it often makes more sense to start fresh.
Condensation on the outside of the glass is actually a sign that the glazing is working properly. It means the glass is keeping heat in so effectively that the outer surface stays cooler than the air around it. If you are seeing that on a new installation, that is a good thing.
Damp around the base or where the conservatory meets the house wall is a different issue, often a flashing or drainage problem. We check all of this at the survey stage so there are no surprises once the build starts.
Better Security for Your Home
Security on older conservatories is often an afterthought. Thin frames, basic locks, and easy-to-force doors are common on builds that are more than ten or fifteen years old. Our conservatories are fitted with multi-point locking systems on all doors as standard. These lock at multiple points along the frame rather than at a single central point, making forced entry considerably harder.
Door handles and cylinders are anti-snap and anti-pick as standard. Glass units in the door panels are toughened or laminated, so even if the glass is struck, it does not shatter in a way that gives easy access. For homeowners in areas where security is a particular concern, we can also look at upgrading to thicker laminated glazing across the full conservatory.
Window locks on the side panels can be specified with night vent positions, so you can leave windows slightly open for airflow without compromising security. Small details like that make a real difference to how comfortable and secure the room feels day to day.
Our Fitting Team and Timescales
Edinburgh Glazing Company uses its own installation teams rather than subcontracting the work out. That means the people who come to your home know the products they are fitting and can deal with anything unexpected on site without having to wait for someone else to make a decision.
A typical conservatory installation takes between five and ten working days depending on the size and complexity of the build. We will give you a clear timescale before the work starts, and we will let you know in advance if anything on site is likely to affect that. Base work or groundworks, where required, are factored into the schedule from the start.
All of our work is carried out to current building regulation standards. Depending on the size and specification of your conservatory, permitted development rules may apply, and we can advise you on that at no charge during the initial visit.
Your 10 Year Guarantee
Every conservatory we install comes with a full 10 year guarantee covering both the products and the installation. That covers the frames, sealed glass units, roof, and all hardware. If something fails within that period, we come back and put it right. No call centres, no lengthy disputes. You call the same local number you used when you first got in touch.
The guarantee is backed in writing and transferable if you sell your property, which can be a useful point to have in your pack when the time comes to sell.
