Patio Doors Edinburgh, Get A Quote

A lot of Edinburgh homeowners put up with draughty, poorly sealing patio doors for longer than they should. Cold air creeps in around the frames, condensation builds up between the glass panes, heating bills climb, and the locks start to feel less reliable than they once did. If any of that sounds familiar, new patio doors could make a noticeable difference to your home.

Solving Draughts and Heat Loss

Older patio doors, particularly those fitted with single glazing or early double glazing units, struggle to hold heat inside your home. The seals around the frame degrade over time, and you end up with cold spots and draughts that no amount of draught excluder tape will properly fix.

New patio doors fitted by Edinburgh Glazing Company use A-rated double glazed sealed units filled with argon gas and fitted with warm edge spacer bars around the perimeter of each glass unit. These details matter because they reduce the amount of heat that escapes through the glass itself, not just around the edges.

The frames make a difference too. Our uPVC frames are multi-chambered, which means there are several separate air pockets running through the profile that slow down heat transfer. Aluminium frames use a thermal break within the profile to achieve a similar result with a slimmer overall section. Either way, your living room should feel warmer and your boiler should not have to work as hard to maintain a comfortable temperature.

Clearing Up Condensation Problems

Condensation on the inside surface of the glass is a sure sign that the sealed unit has failed. Once moisture gets between the panes, the glass will never fully clear, and there is no repair for it. The only solution is replacing the door.

New sealed units are manufactured under controlled conditions and tested for air and water tightness before they leave the factory. With proper installation and a quality frame that holds the unit securely, you should not see that kind of internal misting again. Surface condensation on the room-facing side of the glass can still happen in very humid conditions, but that is a ventilation issue rather than a door problem.

If condensation is also appearing around your door frames or on the walls nearby, the existing installation may have gaps or missing sealant that are letting moisture track through. A new installation, correctly fitted and sealed, puts a stop to that.

Better Security for Your Home

Patio doors have historically been seen as a weak point in home security, particularly older sliding doors that could be lifted off their tracks or opened with a simple tool. Modern patio doors are built differently, and security has moved on considerably.

Every patio door we install comes fitted with a multi-point locking system as standard. Rather than a single bolt or latch holding the door closed, there are multiple locking points engaging along the height of the door every time you lock it. Sliding doors also have anti-lift devices built into the track so the door cannot be removed from the outside.

The glass itself is toughened safety glass, which is significantly harder to break than standard float glass and, if it does break, it fragments into small blunt pieces rather than large sharp shards. For additional security, laminated glass is available as an upgrade. This holds together even when struck hard, which makes forced entry through the glass much more difficult and time-consuming for an intruder.

Patio Door Styles We Supply and Fit in Edinburgh

Sliding patio doors are a practical choice for rooms where a swinging door would get in the way. They glide on a track and stack neatly to the side, leaving the full opening clear. We supply them in two, three, and four pane configurations depending on the width of your opening and how much of it you want to be openable.

French doors open outward as a pair and suit a wide range of property types, from traditional Edinburgh stone-built houses to newer builds. They create a wide, open access point to the garden and work well at ground level or opening onto a raised decked area. A low threshold version is available for level access.

Bi-fold doors fold back on themselves in a concertina arrangement, allowing you to open up almost the full width of a wall. Available in configurations from two to seven panels and spanning up to six metres, they change the relationship between an indoor living space and a garden or terrace significantly. Both uPVC and aluminium frame options are available across all three door styles, with a wide choice of colours including white, anthracite grey, black, and several woodgrain finishes.

Our Fitting Team and Turnaround Times

Edinburgh Glazing Company fits patio doors throughout Edinburgh and the surrounding areas, including the Lothians and Midlothian. Our fitting team are experienced installers who work to a clean, tidy standard. They take care of removing and disposing of your old door as part of the job, and they leave the installation properly finished with neat internal and external sealing.

Most patio door installations are completed in a single day. Larger bi-fold configurations or jobs that involve structural alterations to the opening may take a little longer, but we will always give you a clear timescale before any work begins. There is no vague scheduling. You get a specific date and you know what to expect.

Your 10-Year Guarantee

Every patio door installed by Edinburgh Glazing Company is backed by a full 10-year guarantee. This covers the frames, the sealed glazing units, and the hardware including the locks and handles. If anything fails or develops a fault within that period, we will come back and put it right. That applies to both the materials and the installation itself, so you are covered on both fronts.
